Independent Options supporter Mark Appleyard is lacing up his running shoes and training hard as he prepares to take on the Great Manchester Run in aid of the Stockport-based charity.
Mark is running the 10k race on 22 May, and is hoping to raise £150 in aid of Independent Options, where his daughter, Evie (2), attends the Children and Family Centre.
Independent Options’ Children and Family Centre provides inclusive play opportunities in a safe and welcoming environment for children with learning disabilities and additional needs. Through its wide range of groups, play sessions and SEN training courses, children can learn and play while parents can access a wide range of information and support.
Evie has global development delay and is currently having tests at Manchester Children’s Hospital to try and get a diagnosis for her specific condition. She also suffers with epilepsy and has had nine severe seizures over the last year and a half which have hospitalised her.
Mark commented: “Independent Options has been fantastic for both Evie and my wife Christine. They offer amazing support and fun groups which Evie loves and have helped us to meet families in a similar position. This is my chance to give something back and promote a great charity and raise awareness for Evie’s conditions.”

Fundraising Manager, Lucy Sawdon-Molloy, commented: “Mark is doing a fantastic job of gearing up for the Great Manchester Run, fitting in training sessions around work and hospital visits. We’re thrilled that Mark has chosen to support Independent Options by taking on the 10k, and wish him the best of luck for the day!”
