Last Monday (26th May) we were distraught to learn that vandals set fire to the outbuildings we have on our allotment here in Hazel Grove.
The allotment project enables adults with disabilities to experience the fun and satisfaction of growing their own vegetables as well as providing valuable experience of planning and working in a team. All of our tools, work wear and materials were destroyed in the fire.
Assessing the damage at the time, we thought it would take months to get the plot back up and running again, whilst we figured out where the money would come from.
Luckily, our sad story has a very happy ending. Thanks to the media coverage the arson attack received and the incredible generosity of the local community, we are thrilled to announce we have exceeded our £1,000 target to restore the allotment to its former glory within 10 days!
We are humbled by the support and the kindness of the public, and the individuals and groups who have donated to the project. Because of you, we are able to put back into action a scheme that is a great source of happiness to the people who use our services, and we could not be more grateful. As a charity we rely heavily on donations from good people like you, so if you still want to donate, we have other projects ongoing which Lucy our fundraising manager, can tell you more about.
From all at Independent Options, THANK YOU, and we look forward to keeping you up to date with the allotments as we find our feet again.
